When did breakfast get so expensive?

Breakfast used to be one of the most affordable meals of the day. Mostly because it usually doesn’t cost as much to make almost everything involved outside of certain meats. Eggs, pancakes, waffles, and other foods, all involve simple recipes filled with basic staple ingredients. However, something has changed over the last so many years and it may not be what you think it is.

Certain variables make sense, like the fact that inflation has driven everything up a little. Then there is the demand for higher wages from even the most beginner-labeled positions out there. Fast food positions that used to be an opportunity for high school kids to pick up some basic job skills and experience to prepare them for when they move into a real career, are now demanding wages as high as $20/hour. So much for a job shaped around teens as workers are now calling it a “career”.

These things sting when it comes to the prices we pay as things no longer become as affordable as they used to. Greed and laziness have pressured the system to no longer require education and self discipline in order to qualify for a higher wage. The whole everyone gets a trophy thing is getting a little old, especially for those of us that have pushed ourselves to achieve higher educations and trials. Yet this still isn’t the biggest reason why breakfast has gotten so expensive.

I am always looking for new mom and pop restaurants to support. So I tend to spend a lot of time at smaller cafes, brunch-spots, and other restaurants with a wide menu and friendly service. With the exception of trendy brunch spots that make no sense to me. I visited a location called Toasted Gastrobrunch, for example, that was more about the presentation of the restaurant than the food when it comes to pricing. You are paying for unique decor like the plastor cow near the front door, industrial theme, fancy art-filled tables, etc. These restaurants are a place for scene kids or sometimes vegan cult members.

I had asked why the price of breakfast was so incredibly high (ex: some of these types of restaurants offer items for $24 that you can get down the street for $14). The gentleman was at least honest when he told me it was because breakfast was “popular” now, therefore they can charge higher prices and get away with it as people will pay. Not because it costs them more to make it or to obtain the ingredients, but simply because they can. Kind of the slogan for corporate Las Vegas (it’s the same reason why our sporting events and shows are so expensive here). It’s pretty much a form of a profiteering that everyone simply gets away with.

Thankfully, you can still find honest businesses that have raised their prices a little over time to combat inflation (which in itself is unfair worldwide for everything we need or do). Those same meals can be found for $14-$16, which seems like a current standard.

But then you run into spots that are just blatantly trying to profit. A good example of this is Farmer Boys. I stopped by a few days ago for a simple french toast breakfast. I say simple since a third (or more) of the plate is empty space. You are done before you know it. Not too surprising when you consider that Farmer Boys is an in-between restaurant. Not quite fast food, but not quite a normal sit-down restaurant either. Yet that simple plate and a small drink was over $20. At this rate, even the trendy scene places are almost attractive as an alternative. The small drink alone was just under $5 and it was a fountain drink. One of the most affordable items for a restaurant to profit from and they have massively inflated the price. Unless they are trying to send a political message about diabetes by making it less attractive to buy one (which i doubt), it is clear sign of profiteering and corporate greed.

The “in-between” restaurant (Farmer Boys) is now more expensive than your typical true sit-down style restaurant that you are waiting on from start to finish. Which, in my book, ruled them out as a place to ever visit again as I’d rather spend that money on a heartier meal as a real restaurant.

Finally, I visited Taco Bell this morning for breakfast (Yes, I know, not exactly the most healthy thing to be eating). They used to be affordable as breakfast was usually around $5 for a meal (including drink). But for a small/thin breakfast quesadilla, two little cinnamon balls, and and a small drink, it was more than $8. You can come back for lunch and get a box lunch that is more densely filled with food for less than this. All of their breakfast combos where $8+.

So the lesson to be learned here is stick to making breakfast at home. Stop entertaining these trendy scene spots that purposely charge inflated pricing. If people stop paying, they will bring those prices down to a normal level (or go out of business, which I don’t feel so bad saying since they are purposely taking advantage of people). If you have to go out, do a little research first and support the places that are reasonable. Support the down-to-Earth mom and pop places. Take a stand. Don’t feed into the problem.

The Deterioration of Driving Etiquette: Unraveling the Causes Behind Worsening Driver Behavior

In recent years, a growing concern has emerged regarding the deteriorating quality of driving behavior on roads around the world. Incidents of road rage, reckless driving, and a general decline in adherence to traffic rules have become increasingly prevalent. Understanding the factors contributing to the worsening behavior of drivers is crucial for addressing the challenges and ensuring road safety for all.

  1. Increased Distractions:

One of the most significant contributors to deteriorating driving behavior is the pervasive increase in distractions within the modern lifestyle. The prevalence of smartphones and in-car infotainment systems has made it easier than ever for drivers to engage in activities that divert their attention from the road.

Texting, browsing social media, and using navigation apps while driving have become common practices, leading to a rise in accidents and near misses. The constant connectivity that these devices offer contributes to a culture of distracted driving, impacting not only the safety of the driver but also that of other road users. As much as I absolutely love them myself, things are only going to get worse until all vehicles

  1. Stress and Time Pressure:

The fast-paced nature of contemporary life has led to heightened stress levels and increased time pressure for many individuals. Commuters facing long hours in traffic, tight schedules, and demanding work responsibilities may succumb to frustration and impatience behind the wheel.

Stress can manifest in aggressive driving behaviors, including tailgating, speeding, and improper lane changes. The constant pressure to save time can lead drivers to take risks and disregard safety measures, further contributing to the degradation of overall driver behavior.

  1. Lack of Traffic Education:

Despite advancements in technology and improvements in vehicle safety features, the fundamental education and training of drivers have not kept pace. Many drivers on the road today may not have received comprehensive education on traffic rules, road etiquette, and defensive driving techniques. Heck, many states don’t even require drivers to know how to parallel park anymore. It’s like taking cursive out of schools.

A lack of awareness about the consequences of reckless behavior and a failure to understand the importance of following traffic laws contribute to a culture of non-compliance. Improving driver education and awareness campaigns can play a vital role in addressing these issues and promoting responsible driving habits.

  1. Road Infrastructure and Congestion:

Inadequate road infrastructure and persistent traffic congestion can also contribute to worsening driver behavior. Frustration stemming from frequent traffic jams and poorly maintained roads can result in drivers taking unnecessary risks to save time or express their discontent. I know this is a big issue where I live as our state can’t seem to figure out how to properly maintain its roads or how to properly direct traffic where road work is happening.

Bottlenecks, poorly designed intersections, and inconsistent traffic flow can create a breeding ground for aggressive driving. Addressing these infrastructure shortcomings and implementing effective traffic management strategies are essential steps toward fostering a safer and more cooperative driving environment.

  1. Erosion of Driving Culture:

The societal perception of driving as a privilege that comes with responsibilities is gradually eroding. As more individuals view driving as a mundane task rather than a skill that demands respect and consideration for others, there is a corresponding decline in the overall driving culture.

Social norms play a crucial role in shaping behavior, and when the prevailing attitude towards responsible driving weakens, instances of road rage, disregard for traffic rules, and a lack of courtesy on the road become more prevalent.

So, in Conslusion

The worsening behavior of drivers on the roads is a multifaceted issue with roots in technological advancements, societal changes, and infrastructure challenges. Addressing this problem requires a holistic approach that combines improved driver education, stricter enforcement of traffic laws, and investments in road infrastructure. Additionally, promoting a culture of responsible driving through public awareness campaigns and community engagement is vital for fostering a safer and more courteous driving environment for everyone on the road. As we navigate the challenges of the modern world, it is imperative to recognize the importance of responsible and considerate behavior behind the wheel to ensure the well-being of all road users.

Certain shared hosting services like Hostgator seem to be having a lot of issues

I have noticed that some of the shared hosting solutions like Hostgator have been having a handful of issues as of late, marking a bad few months for the companies. This mostly affects Hostgator though as it has experienced many hours worth of downtime for hundreds of websites.

How do I know? I have multiple websites through various services and some of them are hosted on these shared hosting servers simply due to cost vs the fact that those websites don’t exactly make money. Through the years, there have been some dark times for these companies, but this year takes the cake possibly.

Last month was the worst I have seen in a long time if I don’t include the tiny little companies I used to use a long time ago. Hostgator alone resulted in so many hours of downtime that took a few of my websites offline for a number of days in the first week of the month. Since then, there have been random downtimes, some lasting a half hour, some minutes.

In fact, the latest was just moments ago, which led to me wanting to write about this. This is also where the screenshots come from in this story.

Hostgator Down - Twitter Screenshot - Shared Hosting

I notice those sites are down again and immediately took to Twitter to see how big it is. Once again, hundreds of users were offline with many of them posting about it there and via other sources like Reddit. And these are just the website owners that noticed it.

It’s hard to say for sure what is causing so many issues since these companies don’t exactly tell you. Nor do they update their uptime promises listed on their websites as they always claim to have a near 99% uptime guarantee. Of course, there really isn’t a guarantee as they will never take responsibility for when downtime does occur past this.

For example, the downtime that Hostgator experienced last month that lasted for days came out of nowhere. Yet the company’s response was that it was due to a planned server move and that it may lead to up to 20 minutes or so of downtime. However, how can it be planned if no communication about it was sent to their customers? Imagine how many companies lost money from suddenly falling offline without any notice. No reasonable time to be able to react to it somehow and be prepared for it. Not to mention they kept saying 20 minutes even though they had already been down for nearly a day at that point.

Honestly isn’t really a strong point with these companies. Meanwhile, since the major outage, there has been a number of other outages. Again, stories and excuses, but never taking responsibility for it. People cry for refunds or credits but they never get them. Instead, the cost of these hosts has been rising noticeably over the years.

The only real solution is to move to a better host. If you are going to spend that kind of money, you might as well put it toward a company that tries harder to deliver. Maybe try a company like Bluehost or Siteground. Personally, I will be pulling anything on HG myself and moving it to one of these other options.

Whatever happened to The Cow Song on YouTube?

In an interview with some of the Las Vegas Mobsquad (aka LVMS or LVMobsquad) members, I dug deeper into understanding what happened to The Cow Song. A viral video that swept the internet some years ago (with sequels and everything) and then came to a noticeable stop. It continued to live on ever since but with a much smaller amount of traffic flooding to it (likely dedicated fans). It was doing so well. So what happened?

The answer was “YouTube”. Apparently, YouTube suddenly happened during the height of their videos. The company demonetized its channel out of nowhere, claiming LVMS’ videos were copyrighted content (by LVMS…). Their notice even noted their name as the copyright owners.

This caused a lot of damage as it sudden cut their profits to zero and they were no longer coming up in search the way they used to (popular videos tend to pop up at the top during user searches). However, it seems that demonetized channels lose this feature. So not only did their profits come to a complete stop, but a huge portion of their traffic did too.

LVMS tried reaching out to YouTube immediatly to try to get the situation resolved. Explaining that they are themselves, therefore everything was kosher. That they didn’t understand how they would get tagged for copyright for their own videos. YouTube eventually agreed but said the damage was already done. The company stated that their system is automated and once a channel gets demonetized (even if it was in error), they would have to wait the number of months to re-apply. That there was nothing they could do.

This sounds incredibly odd and suspicious. Most likely, YouTube didn’t care. They are a giant afterall and their ad profits are still running on their videos. So what do they care?

They inquired about a lawyer to try to fix the situation, but no lawyers would take on the giant. So in the meantime, LVMS decided to stop producing content. They waited the window and eventually applied again. It took some time but the channel was eventually monetized again. However, nothing has been the same ever since.

LVMS said that numbers never came back the way they were before and the profits no longer matched the numbers they still had. Suddenly they were making a lot less for traffic compared to what they used to (not just because numbers were down). Apparently, the demonetization of the channel really screwed things up. They felt like they were coming back from a major stroke and just never recovered.

This experience with the streaming platform resulted in LVMS stepping back from production. Why produce on a platform that punishes its creators, right? They have since released videos, but nothing like the Cow videos. The Cow videos might have come to and end thanks to YouTube. I say might, since they said there was always a chance of sequels in the future. However, they just don’t have the excitement and energy to bother with it thanks to YouTube completely destroying the experience for them.

Meanwhile, time passes by and entities like Doja Cat come out of nowhere, completely ripping off the The Cow Song in a tacky cleavage-filled rap video. Cow Song fans even commented that it was a rip off of The Cow Song and no one ever did anything about it. YouTube never tagged her for any copyright violations. I guess rap artists continue to get away with stealing lyrics and sampling the tunes of other artists. While the original artists fade into the shadows of giants.

Such a shame that the Cow Song met the fate that it did. I hear that things like this happen a lot. YouTube apparently doesn’t offer much for customer service. Therefore, it is too bad that no lawyer was willing to go up against YouTube as this might have been the perfect way to rattle their door and get someone’s attention. Meanwhile, content creators continue to get hurt to this very day.

How to prevent Gorilla Glue (and others) from drying out on you all the time

Don’t you just absolutely hate it when you buy a new bottle of Gorilla glue or gel for a project, just to find out that it has dried up a few months later? This usually happens when you don’t use it for a while and it just sits around until the next need comes along. However, as it sits around, it can start to harden on the inside and becomes useless.

The trick to preventing this is pretty easy and it comes down to storage. The trick is to help preserve the seal through an external means since its own seal kind of sucks (it’s the same thing for normal Super/Krazy/Loctite glues as well). The easiest way of doing this is to store the bottle,. tube, or whatever form you bought it in, inside of a plastic storage bag (ie, ziplock sandwich bag). This way, its own seal has less of a chance of being exposed to the open air.

To add to this, throw in a pack of silica gel. You can find these in so many different packages that products come in. It’s great to save these in a plastic bag for projects like this because they can really come in handy at times. This is one of them.

You might think. wouldn’t that dry up the glue by removing all of the moisture from it? No. As long as the top is screwed on well enough (no over-tightening required), it will not affect the glue itself. Instead, it helps maintain whatever air is left within the baggy and you want that air to be dry else it will promote whatever glue within the threads of the cap from hardening and preventing you from opening it later.

You can let 6 months or more pass. When you take the bottle out of the bag and go to open it, you’ll find it opens perfectly fine (it won’t be glued shut), and the glue inside will be perfectly preserved.

Easynews for Newsgroups – A Review

I have been an avid fan of recommending Newshosting as an ideal option for newsgroup access. If you are going to spend money every month to access newsgroups (which is really the only way you are going to comfortably do it), you might as well go with the best when it comes to not spending too much, while also getting the most for your money. However, the normal method of accessing newsgroups isn’t for everyone. Some require a learning curve since they have never used newsgroups before. For them, there is another option.

Lately, we have been playing with Easynews, which is a very similar service when it comes to features and cost, only it comes with additional tools to make your experience a breeze. One of these features is their own search engine that can be accessed from any browser, including mobile devices. In fact, there are even apps for your mobile device that work with Easynews. What’s nice is that you can download items from newsgroups, directly from the search engine interface. No need to have an external application to manage your downloads with. Just one search engine to do it all.

There are many things that can be customized about the search engine as well, to make sure it displays to your liking. You can even switch to a dark mode (as you can see in the header image above), which a lot of major sites (like Bing) are still promising to eventually be a feature. You can customize how results are displays and more. They definitely seem to have put a lot of effort into the design of it.

Not only can you download directly from the search engine page, but you can also choose to download and send it to your zip manager, or download it as an NZB file that you can send over to your favorite download manager (ie, Newsbin), which we’ll talk about in a moment.

The only thing I found that was odd was when you come across a post that no longer exists. Typically meaning that it has been taken down due to copyright, or it is an incredibly old post (I say incredibly because like Newshosting, Easynews has an incredible retention that is ever-growing). When you come across a post that no longer exists, nothing really happens when you click to download it. Normally, when using a download manager, you have access to a log screen that would give you an error like “no such posts exists on the server”. However, in the Easynews browser, it just gets lost in “connecting” and the page never updates. It makes you think the download button is broke. I ran into this a few times and then decided to do it from my favorite download manager, where it then told me the post was no longer available. So they do need to work on a status/log feature or at least some kind of notification that pops up and says “sorry, this post no longer exists” (maybe even strike it from the results for the future).

However, we’ve been playing with it for a little while now, testing various searches and posts (files). In most situations, everything acts exactly the way you’d hope, which is great. I would still learn how to use a download manager (if I was you) for any large amount of posts you are looking to download at once, as browsers don’t always like to be flooded with downloads. However, for a post here and there, the search engine is great to download from.

It can also act like a normal newsgroup service, where you can add the server information to your download manager (ie, Newsbin) and use it like you would Newshosting or any other newsgroup service. Of course, now you are taking things into the direction of needing to read the newsgroup tutorial if you have never done that before.

You can use the Easynews search engine to find NZB files to send over to the download manager, or you can do everything in one place if the download manager has its own search function–although this usually means another subscription fee, depending on the app you are using (Newsbin charges $30/year for their search function).

Easynews truly is an all-inclusive newsgroup service that is really “easy” to use and affordable, making it incredibly “easy” to recommend. You can visit their website here and subscribe at a discounted rate that lasts for the life of the account.

New subdomain = shorter links

Took a moment to move everything to an easier to remember the path. This blog can now be accessed via the shorter URL of thesaint.animevortex.net instead of having to remember the entire path. Better for memory, better for you. At least, that’s what I convinced myself with.

The change just makes a shorter URL path, helping to clean up some of that text each time someone shares a link.

ALSO, there is a new theme for everything. The old one was getting a bit old since the official release of the theme and I hacked it up so much over the years with my own custom modifications that it was getting a little too hard to modify each time something got deprecated or thrown out in the PHP world. So, a new theme!

If anyone runs into any trouble with anything, please feel free to point it out to me. I will do my best to squash whatever bugs there are.

Whispering Canyon Cafe in Orlando

I had to take a moment to recognize the Whispering Canyon Cafe in Orlando for both their food and service. There was no way that I could walk away and not brag about the experience we had (myself and the group of friends I was with).

We had a large group that visited this restaurant last month for a friend’s huge Orlando Birthday Vacation, where we hit so many restaurants, theme parks and more for 8 days of fun. This was one of the first places we visited besides our resort after touching down in Orlando and was absolutely one of the best. The service was similar to Dick’s Last Resort, and the waiter we had was fantastic. He was filled with personality and pinpoint accuracy when it came to

Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich? I think not. The winner is Big Chicken by miles

I simply don’t understand the commotion over the chicken sandwich at Popeye’s and all of the competiting brands that stood up to compete in the marketing stunt. Well, it’s actually just that. A marketing stunt.

Is Popeye’s chicken sandwich the best out there? No. Of course, it isn’t. But there is no such thing as bad press. So it was an impressive stunt by all of the participating companies who got together to raise their daily sales with.

CBD solutions from CBD Essence – Chewy Taffies and Oil, oh my!

CBD has been a growing trend as more users flock towards usage that aren’t ready for or prefer not to try THC, let it be due to not wanting “the high” or simply in fear of how it might impact their professional life. CBD grants them access to the medicinal benefits of marijuana without the high and won’t show up on any test. It is generally legal most anywhere these days if hemp-derived and can be found in both brick and mortar shops as well as online.

How well it works changes with
