From the site:
Rubens’ Tube is an awesome demo and here we take it to the next level with a two-dimensional ‘Pyro Board’. This shows unique standing wave patters of sound in the box.
The pressure variations due to the sound waves affect the flow rate of flammable gas from the holes in the Pyro Board and therefore affect the height and colour of flames. This is interesting for visualizing standing wave patterns and simply awesome to watch when put to music. Thank you to Sune Nielsen and everyone at Aarhus for sharing this demonstration with me! And thanks for having me at your conference.

Pretty sweet!
Na chuja mu szalik w domu? Pojeb.
цветомузыка под Trap Music стиль! =)))))))))
Denmark ftw
Entrancing…*types in youtube “Gigantic rubens tube”*
Man I wonder how dubstep with work with that
try to play skrillex – make it bun dem with it lol
Whats the name of that song? and dont say dude sand storm! 0:03
Well, now I have to build one of these…
Nice to know that Veritasium didn’t know what standing waves are. 😀
Regardez cette vidéo sur YouTube :
Best music visualizer ever.
I need this in my fireplace.
cool…. or hot. haha whatever 😉
Wow!
Whole channel is worth watching 🙂
watching the flames while the music is playing is very hypnotic & calming
almost.
Dude, I could watch that for hours.

Thank me later
The nodes look like white(The color i’m not being racist) fingers.
Ruben’s tube/pyro board in zero g?
propane and propane accessories -hank
Watch #fire and #sound interacting!
The video shows the low flames on the Ruben tube as being at nodes – but
actually aren’t the flames *higher* at the nodes? The motion of the gas at
the anti-nodes should produce a lower pressure (Bernouli’s principle), and
therefore lower flame height, shouldn’t it? The nodes should be at a
higher pressure, being the compression part of the standing wave, therefore
emit more gas?
I’m still sad i didn’t meet you when you were in czechia, you gotta come
back some time again.
this is amazing, I think that is so cool!!!!
Sound meets Fire!!??! ~ Thats hella wicked
I want to see Meshuggah play through this.
Hello, Actually I am designing a Pyro Board of my own. im 17 and plan to be
an Engineer for my career. in my High School we have an Engineering program
and im in my Final stage, Research and Development. I have a simplistic
design of a 2.5ft x 2.5ft box with about 3,000+ holes in a square pattern
similar to the Pyro Board from Fyshics channel. im lucky to have a CNC
machine available to help make accurate holes and precise chamfers but
limited to a 40″ x 20″ travel. Also, since I have this as my project I cant
really make it exactly the same :(. so I need to put my physics and
Ingenuity skills to the test and create a whole new type of plane from the
rubens tube. 😀 I just need to get a deeper understanding of how the
vibrations travel through the gas and how, that if its possible, make it so
that I create a plane but it… ahh cant speak anymore might give it away
😉
I want to make it so that it is a whole new way of showing off the 2D
plane…. but that it inst just a square board, ill have to convince my
teacher that I need to make this example along with a whole new type of
plane that isn’t a box * Hint Hint 😉
This is some pretty cool stuff. Can I have a few for the house?!?
This is not really 2D.But it is still a good experiment.
*But u cant make anything really 2D in our world. The only place where you
can make an 2D object is the cyber world.*
Can u guys do this video in slow motion also
I can only imagine dubstep…
It would have higher presicion of reaction if it was round shaped tho..
Club owners are going to love this. $$
“At the beginning of the video” Wow, this looks like something I would want
to touch! “Five seconds later” Nevermind…
“Accidentally forgets volume at maximum” Let’s listen to some DubStep!
“House explodes”
Rip to the Headset Users! 😀
Cooken some food and listening to music
Imagine making a giant metal background board for a concert stage with this
setup. Nine Inch Nails would have loved it. Someone should do this idea.
You could split the giant board into multiple smaller ones for transport..
Any takers?
Any chance of going back and playing a Shepards Tone down it, it would be
interesting to see
I think it’s weird that his lights automatically go out once the fire is
lit.
Awesome! now do this with “300 violin orchestra” playing. that would be
epic!!!
Hey man, great board, youve inspired us to make the same thing for a
science fair here in Barranquilla Colombia, its great work, do you have an
email adress where i can contact you to ask a couple of questions? thanks +
Veritasium
what was the song name at 3:40?
Easiest way to burn up your house 😀
That would make an awesome bonfire lol
+Sean Schmidt imagine this hooked up to your music!
