As a few years travel by, I tend to collect a lot of old gear and positions that I no longer need. Let it be outdated PC parts, instrument accessories, recording gear, clothing, camera gear and so forth. I usually end up giving it away to friends, family and finally Goodwill for whatever is left.
I decided to tally up everything (Goodwill-wise) so far that I have let go this year to see what my writeoffs look like thus far. I have given away 42 items to goodwill already. I never knew I had so much stuff I didn’t need. Given, I think I have gone though just about everything looking for such items…so I’m pretty much at a dead end now. An old wired phone, a not so old digital 5ghz wired phone set (I don’t have a hard-phone line)….an old digital camera, a printer…some old clothes that were never worn (yatta yatta). It all adds up quickly collecting space.
I handed off a good number of things to friends as well. I just mailed out a small pocket-size digital kodak camera to a friend. I noticed I haven’t used it in over 2 years. It was a nice camera, but my phone takes just as good images (if not better) so why not pass it on to someone who could use it. Two old 21″ TV’s, some Xbox games that I some how acquired but would never play. *poof*….gone. Freed up a lot of space.
Something interesting, I recently acquired a signed original art piece by one of the artists from “Adventure Time” (via a local comic/art convention) for someone. I paid $15 for it, it was very well sketched out and had no idea what I was going to do with it, as sadly I could no longer give it to them. I don’t watch the show myself. I tried giving it away but I didn’t know anyone who followed the show (no one wanted to claim it). I wound up bringing it up to someone who bought it off of me for $50. As to why they wanted it so badly (especially since the signature was personalized), couldn’t say. o_O….I may need to acquire some more of those art pieces the next time I run into that artist. It was an image of the dog from the show, dressed as batman in a nice action scene. Unique….
If everyone took the time to randomly go through one room a day and collect everything that had no need for….old PC gear, tech you haven’t used for years and have no need for now, clothing that no longer fits or never worn…an old bowling bowl……..imagine treasure smorgasbord that would be donated to Goodwill or anyone else who wanted it. Imagine the space you will suddenly find in your homes. Take those old drives you use as doorstops and offer them to friends. You never know…they may need that 80GB hard drive for an odd project. Old cellphones…your neighbor may be looking to give their kid a phone they don’t worry so much about getting trashed.
I have a family member I have been slowly helping out. They are quite the pack rat, so Goodwill has been gaining a lot of weight thanks to them. About 4 car loads so far. I’d say that’s quite the dent in decades of…..pack ratting. They have found areas in their house they forgot were even there.
…..just a random blabber post/point since I had no idea what to write about. I had a review drafted from a few weeks ago about some gaming apparel/stuff but I decided against publishing it. Just didn’t have the energy to finish it. More things to come though…eventually. As soon as I find my muse.
Until then….enjoy picking apart this…horribly….formatted….blog post…….after watching one of Weird Al’s new videos (quite possibly one of his best):
….and….this is where I realize I should have gone to bed as I need to get up in four and a half hours.

the original video made me lose self-respect.
that was gained back via this.
rock on hair twin

I hate when the English language is butchered. It drives me insane. I think
this Weird Al song is FANTASTIC!
“Weird Al” Yankovic – Word Crimes
we watched this in my history class XD
*This is my new favorite video.*
I really love the originally song *musically* but can’t bring myself to
listen to it given all of the other seriously problematic elements of both
the song and video. This, however, is completely brilliant, and perfect for
me. So good.

“Weird Al” Yankovic – Word Crimes
Anyone notice at 0:04 it had the definition of Accordion and it showed a
picture of what looks like Weird Al? That gave me a good laugh.
+Dominik Fryč Pustíme o Angličtině? :))
This song is just mean! My friend showed me this because i need help with
grammar! AND I’M 13! Thanks Alot Al! YOU RUINED MY LIFE BY THIS VIDEO! ;(
My supervisor recommended I listen to this song. We are always joking about
how he’s dyslexic, and I have an IQ of above 140. I’ll admit, incorrect
grammar usage bugs the hell out of me!
My English teacher showed this to our class………
OMG I’m so not caught up, but I’d have to agree with this. -.-lll
+Dante M Why haven’t you showed me this yet?!
Word crimes: the phrase ” one of the only” . This phrase has become widly
accepted , which shows that a lot of people haven’t looked at a dictionary
lately !The word ” only” , means something is ONE of a kind. One of the
only in effect says ” one of the one ” ! The correct phrase is “one of the
few” and while I’m on the subject the use of the term” the ” ( number) year
anniversary” The word ” anniversary means something that happens on a
yearly basis. Therefore, the pharse ” ( number) year anniversary is
redundant ! I’m not just being nitpicky, for clear communication, there has
to be a clear understanding of what a particular word means. And word
meanings have changed over time, but this sort of thing does not foster
clear communication as well as grammatically incorrect.
Funny and sad all at the same time.
ROFL… :”)… #ihatethesewordcrimes.. 😛
Yes! Finally a song about Word Crimes!! Everyone’s got to listen to this!!
Hi
+Speedy Dave this made me think if you. I know it’s a pet peeve of yours 🙂
I can’t remember if anyone shared this song around when it came out, this
being a forum for writers and all. My friend teaches an dance/aerobics
class and there is a routine is set to Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”
(which is the worst. The worst!) so last week we murdered our abs to Weird
Al singing about punctuation and grammar and it was awesome.
I just now found this video. If I was a superhero, this would be my theme
song. My grammar can be quite atrocious. ;_;
+Chibi Proxy XD
Word Crimes, 500 hours of After Effects, illustrator and photoshop.
More people need to see this.
I’m in an Advanced English class for eighth grade. The kid next to me says
there is a typo in the literature book. As the curious person I am, I would
love to see a mass produced error in an English book. He points out “loser”
as a typo, where it was correctly used (ex: “he is a loser”) and says,
“They spelled it wrong, instead of loser, he says they spelled it like it
should be pronounced “(l-ah-ser)”. My question is, if loser is spelled
“looser”, then how do you spell “looser” correctly? This is a real
question, please help me.
In fairness to people who make word crimes, the English language is
difficult. Many rules that can be broken at certain times or do not apply
in odd cases. I’m a reasonably intelligent person. I had mostly straight A
in high school and college, but English was always a challenge and it’s my
native language. Plus regional variations on pronunciation can confuse
spelling. It was the only class that I ever received less than a B in and
it still confounds me to this day. I thank God for spell check and my wife,
who’s a grammar geek. They keep me out of trouble. So go easy on those who
have a lower command of grammar, spelling and punctuation.
I will try to write this comment with perfect grammar. Feel free to tell me
if something is improper.
You have no idea how simple English is. Although English is my second
language, I think it has the simplest grammar of any language I’ve learnt
or tried to learn. It’s very logical and is essentially originated from a
lot of different languages and colloquialisms. English is ready made to be
accessible and easily understandable to many cultures.
Another annoyance I hear on American podcasts; “So” in a beginning of a
sentence.
To all those people for whom English is a second language, it is my second.
I speak Spanish, French, and now learning Japanese. English is one hell of
a beautiful language; however, it’s hard to master.
Technically Weird Al has his own word crime in this song. “Try your best to
not drool.” He split the infinitive. The correct grammar would be, “Try
your best not to drool.” I’m just saying.
Do i have good grammer? I just wood like to no because this video maid me
woreed.
Yes, an american singing about grammer. Good job…
I hate it when people substitute the word “everyday” (“This is my everyday
outfit.”) for the correct phrase “every day” (I wear this outfit every
day.”) I even saw a billboard campaign with this mistake! I’m going to find
out which agency published that campaign, and promptly punch their editor
in the mouth!
Here are some mistakes even native speakers make with their English.

This is a brilliant and very funny video by “Weird Al” Yankovic.
If you want to create a life of Exceptional Purpose, you have got to get a
handle on grammar and spelling. This always shows your level your
self-respect. Words have power! But if you “muck up” the grammar, the power
goes down the drain……..
Weird Al everybody (Clap clap)
