Is Best Buy’s Insignia branded Google smart speaker spying on you?

I really wanted to like it because it is what could have been the perfect combination of an alarm clock and a smart speaker. However, it might hide a dark secret!

There was a moment where the speaker would glitch out and the time would start blinking dashes across the screen. I didn’t think much of it at the time and their tech support for Insignia explained how to reboot it a special way to pretty much clear its head and get it working again.

Then a day came where I heard it

Hisense Sero 7 Lite and Pro – Better Than The Google Nexus 7 Tablet

So I have been keeping my eyes open for both friends, family and myself…to find the great options for tablets. Some looking for power, some look for cost and like me, some look for both. Last year’s Google Nexus tablet was pretty nice outside of the fact that it was missing certain features…certain *important* features that in my eyes makes or breaks a tablet.

The biggest of these features was an SD card slot. How could they make such a great tablet but not include an SD card slot?? So naturally I never bought one.  It’s missing some other features like a rear-facing camera and decent speakers, but an SD card slot is a deal breaker for me. I *almost* bought one for my house last year until I read that.

Now! Enter the “Hisense Sero 7 LT ($99!!!) and the Hisense Sero 7 Pro ($149)! These capture everything the Nexus has but also has a camera on both sides (Update: the Pro has both cams, but not the Lite/LT) so you can both take pictures and do video conversations, it has HDMI out so you can connect it to a TV, AND…it has an SD card slot…AND….it costs less.

Sadly it doesn’t have much space on-board as I would like but it definitely makes up for it with the addition of the SD card slot so you can expand your space.

So for those on a budget yet still looking for a killer tablet…you’d be nuts not to give this a try. At the price, you might as well snag one even if you have another tablet already floating around the house.

Now let’s hope when Google launches a new Nexus tablet that they make the right move this time.

Here are the links again for the two tablets:

$99 – Hisense Sero 7 LT (Dual Core, base features)

$149 – Hisense Sero 7 Pro (Quad Core, base features +NFC, Bluetooth, larger battery, more space, higher res screen, cams on both sides)

Obviously the Pro is the way to go but if you just need something simple and don’t need the extra options…and want it to be dirt cheap, then the Lite/LT is for you!

As always, every time I see something amazing, I try to share the intel and I will never (hopefully) lead your wrong! I try never to review something I don’t feel *strongly* about! 😀

CES 2011, Day two…I was there, I survived proudly

Well, at CES there was a lot to see. A lot of great people to meet, a lot of great tech to drool over, and a lot of great information learned. I demoed the MS Xbox Kinect and got TKO’s in boxing by a Google employee heh. It was funny to see a Google employee having so much fun with a competitors product.

Out of the entire day, there wasn’t a person I regret talking to outside of the man showing off the Sony 3d camcorder. His words were kind of rude and insulting…I didn’t care much for that. I had asked him a reasonable question and he responded like I was an idiot. Now if the question was an idiot question…I would take full credit for it, but all I asked was what the highest resolution it shot in. He was a little sarcastic to that point but at that point he got a little aggravated and explained it shot in HD. Ok….there are various levels of “HD”….back down buddy…take a breather.

Anyways, the 3d TV’s look nicer (the LEDs at least). Very little to no flicker at all (LG was good), and clear as day with light glasses that didn’t bother you while on the face. Personally though I will still wait till it looks that nice or better WITHOUT having to wear glasses. Regardless….it was nice.

Viewsonic has a few nice monitors. Their latest series are LED but 2ms response time (2x the 1ms response time of their past LCD version). Made me want to snag one though….27″s of ……mmmmmm.

Hercules has a nice DJ/mixer usb combo that fell into a somewhat decent price, Triton/MadKatz had a nice 5.1 pair of Triton headphones for the Xbox/PS3, Skype’s on all the major TV’s and the AR Drones are back as usual. Audi has some nice cars to show off, pioneer has a new deck for the car coming out (Navi series) that looks fun, Sony has one hell of a widescreen 3d display for everyone to enjoy.

Did I mention the Kinect was fun?

Well that sums up a lot I think. I’d go deeper into detail and cover all sorts of things with images but this isn’t really a tech news blog. Go to CES!! It’s well worth it.

Who Will Replace Them When Nasa Quits? Google in Space?

With Nasa quiting the space game, who do you think will be taking their place? The US can’t simply back out and let the world pass us up. I think the president is a ding-bat (yes, I said it) for even thinking this could benefit our country.

I think Google should make an attempt at capitalizing on what space has to offer. They seem to pull everything off that they by not only making something successful, but bringing us something no one else has.

They have created an awesome search platform. They have brought us an awesome phone OS. They have brought us numerous web and computer applications such as Google Earth, Maps and so much more. They are even jumping into the ISP world now by offering Google ISP…an option that forces the competition to realize that it’s time to get with the times and stop milking us for every single megabit.

So I think Google has a great chance at getting to space. Who would you like to see in space?

Google is going to jump into the ISP business offering ultra high speed access!

This is great!

Google is planning on jumping into the ISP pool to compete against some of the major companies to show that they can indeed offer ultra high speeds & allow access to all web-applications, while still maintaining a stable network. They are planning on offering the service to select test group areas (of up to 500,000 users) at speeds of more than 100x the average that current providers do.

This is awesome news!  It’s about time one of the companies took the effort to step up and say hey! Yes we can! If Japan can offer 300-400+mbit/s on cell phones….we sure as heck can do the same for at least our home connections….
